DETOX

No no no, no one has a problem with drugs or alcohol!

I am starting a Detox diet this week, and I'm sort of looking forward to it. I got a new book called Detox: Revitalize, Rejuvenate, Revive and it describes a very thorough cleansing diet that lasts 4 weeks. It is supposed to do amazing things for your body... skin, hair, energy level and purify the toxins out of your organs, among many other benefits that can't be calculated.

I told Joseph briefly about my plan to start this detox program this morning. I fully expected him to call me a "crazy hippie greener", but he never fails to impress me. He actually agreed to do it with me! I didn't even ask, he just offered. We did agree that he would not have to go hungry and he could have grilled chicken (or another simple protein) with any meal he wanted, because the detox plan does not include any meat or cow's milk dairy. It consists mostly of fruits, vegetables, seeds, nuts, some fish and non-wheat grains. We also agreed that we'd do it for two weeks this time instead of four, because we are not trying to be doing a cleanse over the holidays, that would be silly. If it's tolerable and brings nice results, I'll do it again for the full month next year.

Aside from changing what you eat a drink, you are also to follow a daily schedule of exercise, epsom salt baths, skin exfoliating and meditation/relaxation. And a weekly schedule of facials, homemade scalp masks and hot foot massage. All this, apparently is the key to "Optimum Health", which is described as a person having a healthy diet, fresh air, exercise, sufficient rest, relaxation, managed stress levels, a clean environment and a positive mental attitude.

I'm always trying to be healthier, so why not aim for Optimum Health and see how it feels. But not today... Joseph is disc-golfing at a new course right now, which means he will play until its dark. That means he will be starving when he gets home and some millet pilaf or roasted root vegetable stew isn't gonna get it, so we're going to have one last filling Amy-dinner tonight and then begin the detox tomorrow.

I will post as we go about our detox success (or struggles).

****I am secretly predicting that Joseph asks me to quit the detox by day 3. And that he'll be done with it by day 4. Bless him for trying, but I think he won't last. Maybe I'm wrong???****

Cheers to being healthy!
